If only trees could talk...

* Click on the pictures to expand them
.....

like this lone tree gazing sadly at the dying lake...

like this lone tree protecting a thin layer of soil.. bearing an unbearable heat...

like this lone tree sheltering thousands of devout.. on Poya days...

like this lone tree who witnessed the rise and fall of a glorious kingdom...

like this lone tree constantly purifying the air we breathe.. even at its old age...

With hollowed souls they live on.. protecting earth.. and animals..

..and even humans.. who mercilessly chop them down...

until... they could no longer bear this burden..

and when their roots give up...

when they could no longer keep up..

the stalwart tree is compelled to lie down..

until its last breath.. wishing to be born again..

never as a human.. yet forever as a tree..

to protect the earth's inhabitants.. including you and me.

Gorgeous pictures Harumi...and these are with a cam phone?!?

...imagine how even more gorgeous they would be if you had a digi cam... I think photography is a talent you have for sure !

Also agree with you whole heartedly. If tree's could talk...I'm sure us humans would hear a mouthfull...as we so rarely treat nature with the respect it deserves.

    Awesome Job Harumi !!

  4. @ K: I once read in Vidusara mag I think, that when there are more lichens on trees, it means the neighborhood is safe from pollution. So maybe they do express themselves in many ways, like these. Thanks a lot for your feedback!

@ MTC: hehe.. ya.. it is the very cam phone I bought by fluke. =D

Aww.. thanks a lot.. ^__^ I've always wanted to study photography but never got around to do so. And now I guess I've started studying it through trial and error..! =D

Very true. And we might be able to pick up a few 'words' they 'utter', if we have the chance to spend more time with them. Thanks once again..!

PS: oh no worries.. =D At first I thought of copyrighting them, but then again I wondered.. do I even have the right to do so when nature has always shared all of its beauty with everyone on earth so equally..! =D

Glad you like them and sure, go ahead and pick as many wallpapers as you wish. =D You're most welcome.. ^__^

  5. Yep. If we can study the behaviour of trees and animals we can learn a lot.

BTW that slideshow has some cool pictures!

  6. That's true. I hope they'll take measures to establish more national parks throughout Lanka, so people will become more familiarized with nature.

Thanks a lot. Those pics will be up eventually. It took more time to post them as I've been categorizing everything.

  7. lovely pictures and narration Harumi! :) indeed, nature gives humans such a bounty of wealth and the gift of life, and yet we repay by destroying it... I also agree that there should be more awareness, especially from the school level... :)

  8. Thanks a lot Chavie.. ^__^

Very true.. while schooling we had a lot of backing so maybe that's why we grew up to love nature. Hope all schools could do the same.

off topic, where's the pic of that deer you saw at Tantirimale? =D

  9. Great results of your new toy - I particularly like the second one from the top. It looks like those photographed in bright daylight have turned up clearer.

  10. Thanks for your comments G!

yep.. and since lately it has transformed into a heavy duty cam rather than a fone. =D

oh ya.. the 2nd pic is of a tree we saw lying by the side of a foot path, which falls on the rocky terrain of Tantirimale.

True. My cam doesn't have a flash. But anyway I did tweak their brightness and contrast slightly, to compensate the lack of lighting.
